        Spotted redshank can be difficult to identify in amongst common redshank in winter as their plumage is very similar. However the beak of spotted is longer, more slender and has a curved end.
        This image (not the best) with spotted nearest shows this.

        In summer the near black plumage of the spotted makes them easy to identify.
