    Heron

This was shot from the kingfisher hide at Slimbridge while we were waiting for the kingfisher to turn up - he never did. Quite interesting, I though herons were just fish eaters but whilst my attention was averted, apparently he caught a reed warbler

no he was already there and probably why the KF never turned up. The kingfishers nest in the bank behind him although they havent this year but as we were walking to the hide someone had just spotted a KF near the other bank

        Re: Heron

        Now that looks familiar!

Nice capture, and nice reflection. The sign I saw in the Kingfisher hide last week said no KF has been seen this year! Perhaps they meant not nested this year, or I just haven't remembered very well!

I have a picture from Barnes a few months ago of a heron in the reeds with feathers in his beak, so I'm not surprised about his diet!

        All the best, Mike.

that notice has been there some while Mike and yes I think it means no KF nesting this year. We were only going by what someone told us but as i say we never saw him. THe thing is though, even had we seen one i doubt it would have been near enough to photograph - we saw the nesting ones last year and the year before but even just on that far bank too far away

Beautiful, especially like the reflection in the water.
