    Black Tailed Godwit Flight

As well as the reds yesterday on Brownsea we were able to get a few shots of the waders on the lagoon including a few in flight.
This one is a black tailed godwit

        Nice! They're a bit shy aren't they - what range was this? 7D + 300 + 1.4?

Saw my first of these at Slimbridge on my 4 day trip in August! I didn't know what it was, so took a (quite bad) long range shot and went and asked someone in the centre. They identified it and I felt quite pleased to have seen 'one', and when I got back to the hide, a few hundred more had arrived! Did I laugh?

More memories of a very pleasant trip! Thanks for posting, Mike.

not on Brownsea along with the avocets they overwinter on the lagoon. Some are reasonably close to the hide but a lot of the time most are quite a way away but you find that once one or two decide to come nearer then a lot of the others follow suit - you see them approaching and have plenty of time to focus and pan before they drop in by the hide - so this one is at 420mm and probably about 60% of the original frame
