    Hawk

Late afternoon on Christmas day I was just off into the kitchen to refill my win.... er ... cup of tea when I spotted this land in the garden.

Imagine the scene. After nearly breaking my neck to get back into the room, I nearly impaled myself on a Christmas tree branch to get the camera.

Then it was "nobody move" as I was afraid that anyone near the windows would make it fly away. Not brilliant shots. Taken through a window in shocking light. Took quite a few shots, but lots blurred due to the bird looking up and down checking its surroundings, while it scattered the feathers from it's late dinner.

I also had the nifty fifty on the front of the camera from when I did the candle shots... I've never changed a lens as quick in my life, to get my 55-250 on.

WDYT and does anyone know what it is?

      Re: Hawk

You were very very lucky Di, hardly even get blackbirds in our garden.

      Its a sparrowhawk

noticed your white balence was on auto and whilst it works most of the time, it has left the shot a bit cold and blue. Warm it up a bit and it will be fine

Wow what an extra Christmas treat I can imagine the panic to get your camera especially after all those cups of tea!!! no critique needed on a snatch shot like this great to just get an imaage on the record. I think Di is right with Sparrow Hawk.

              Oooh, well done Di!

We have a Sparrowhawk who flies around our area, and in-between the houses, but I haven't got a shot yet!

You were really lucky he landed in your garden, but you've done well to catch him... especially 1/10 at F5.6... you must have arms of steel to hold that shot as steady as you have!

              All the best, Mike.

Thanks everyone. Have to say will certainly remember taking these shots for a long while

Stan - it was a cold blue day but see what you mean, had a play with the white balance and this seems to look a little bit better. WDYT?

Mike - Don't know about arms of steal, must have been from adrenaline, running around like a loon.

Came back to add - my DPP keeps crashing, will open some photos but then crashes. Updated everything and gone back to the site and checked everything but still no joy. White balanced altered by using UFraw and Gnu.

Under the circumstances I think you did an awesome job, as for the commentary - "Then it was "nobody move"" - actually laughed out loud at that bit, I can almost picture a room full of family scared to breathe with mince pies half way to their mouths lol

Thank you all. Its a "photo - taking " that I will remember for a very long time. He seems to be hanging around. Not seen him again, but the bird feeders are still full if you know what I mean.
