Maybe with a step to camera right may have given you an image that was clear of the distracting foreground foliage. I bet his head would have followed your movement too David.

      Re: Highland Bull

Did you check the other end? Those upward swept horns show that it's a cow, the horns of a bull project almost straight out in front.
In spite of the horns, Highland cattle are really mild mannered, very good for sites with public access. Don't let your dog chase them though, they don't stand for any nonsense.

Richard, On this farm during winter they put all their bulls together, so I presumed it was another bull. When passing again I will check, but seems strange to put one cow in with 4 bulls? Dave

Peter, I was right up against a shed to get this shot, would have loved to get further round to avoid that patch of snow, but couldn’t. Dave

Nice shot David. I have a picture of my wife being chased by one of these, it would be more than my life be worth to post it.

              Re: Highland Bull

This page shows what I have always understood to be the difference between male and female Highland horns :
              http://bairnsley.com/Horns.htm.

It does say at the bottom of the page that the horns of steers grow more like those of a cow, so that's a possibility, but I'd be very surprised if this is a "complete" bull.

I was once volunteer warden at a nature reserve which was grazed by highlands. The grazier was VERY talkative and told me more about them than I really wanted to know. I did take a lot of photos, film days though and I don't know what has happened to them. Very photogenic, especially the calves.
