    Off the wall.

Well, growing on a wall in South Wales. Went past it a few days back whilst carrying the 50D fitted with the EF100mm Macro, so couldn't resist.....

This is the Ivy Leaved Toadflax, Cymbalaria muralis (mural as in wall, of course). The flowers are about the size of a 6p piece.

    - and a wider view showing the ivy-shaped leaves -

This is the Maidenhair Spleenwort, Asplenium trichomanes. It's a small fern, the specific name trichomanes reflecting "hair" as in trichologist etc. If you see a bushier plant of it dead, without the green bits of the fronds, it looks like, well, maidenhair....

Here's another related small fern, Wall Rue - Asplenium ruta-muraris - with its club-shaped fronds (not leaves although that is their function) -

And the last one on this particular bit of wall, like all the others growing in a pathetic bit of soil in the cracks between the stones, here's Pellitory of the Wall, Parietaria judiaca. It's a member of the stinging-nettle family, and has these insignificant red flowers -

    Cheers, Chris.
    Just chuggin' along.
