    Two blooms from the garden

Its a while since I had time to dust the camera off, seeing the Meconopsis in flower this morning was the trigger to do so. This plant has a special place for us, apparently it's difficult to grow and allegedly flowers once and dies! But it seems that our Meconopsis must have missed the lesson about flowering once and dying, this is the third year that it has flowered for us.

The common name (Blue Poppy) is the reason for it being special for us. One of our Son and Daughter in Law's rescue greyhounds racing name was Blue Poppy sadly she is no longer with us. Her memory lives on in this little plant.

The rose is a bit special too as last year it looked as though it was on its last legs, I decided to take it out of the pot and give it some TLC. On doing so I found out what the problem was; its roots were being devoured by my least favourite creature the dreaded Vine Weevil grubs. Having applied the required TLC it recovered and this year looks as though it is back to full health.

    Post Script Update

Sadly the Blue Poppy has fallen foul of the recent wet and windy weather. This is what it looks like today

Cheers Trev, the detail is probably down to my old trusty 100mmL lens, rather than my photographic skill

Thanks David, ours is in a pot that is situated close to a wall that's covered in ivy so it's in shade most of the day. I've tried many times to germinate their seed always failing miserably, I bought two plants from a local nursery, one went to the daughter in law which only lasted one season.

Thanks for all of your comments, I've added a third image to my original post to show the demise of the Blue Poppy.
