Small Tortoisehell on Thistle

I took this yesterday on the NE coast at Collieston
When I checked my guide book to confirm the species, it said that these wee beauties are in sharp decline.
There were hundreds flying about and feeding on the thistles at this particular spot

Seems to have been a good year for butterflies etc in general. Nice image.

In area I live certainly more of everything including flies!

Very nice Mike and a good composition. They do seem to be quite common this year - there were a couple together on the butterfly bush in the garden yesterday

Not seen any local to me. Seen plenty of peacocks but not this.

Very nice indeed, Mike. Beautiful composition.

Personally, I think this photo should be the beginning of a new forum for non-canon lenses, as clearly there's a big market for them and what cracking images are to be had from them
