    Re: Damsel Fly

Looks like a dragon fly to me, but what do I know?
Is it dead or just resting?

        Re: Damsel Fly

I think 2 pairs of wings = dragonfly, 1 pair = damselfly. Also, when at rest dragonfly wings are separated (open), whereas damselfly wings are together (closed).

Whatever, I think you've done well for a shot at 300mm! Worth practising! I find if I shoot off several shots at once, any slight movement in relation to the subject will provide me with (probably) at least one in focus shot! It's best to have the eye in focus, but it can be tricky!

        All the best, Mike.

As said it is not a damselfly but a dragonfly, possible a female black tailed skimmer. Its posted a bit small really - try to post at 800 px on the longest side - but from what I can see the head looks a bit soft - with any wildlife try and focus on the eye / head area and for this sort of shot aperture at f 8 is a good starting point to ensure that if you are unable to get quite parallel to the dragon you should still get most of it in focus
