    Ice Hair

Something that happens every year when it is really cold, sap comes out of the dead wood and forms these patterns.

I’ve seen this, I think it’s the log/dead wood is saturated with water that freezes. The water expands and is forced to the surface and then freezes to produce what you have got - one of the brains on here will know the answer.

Well spotted David. is the background a wall or stones, or put another way; I'm confused the Ice hair seems to my eyes, to just be on a horizontal branch.

But I will be due an opticians test early in the New Year

It is flat on the ground and they are rotting leaves
