I'm gonna have to have a go at something like this when I finally break the camera out of its bag. What do you use for the smoke Stan?

Flash from the side or front?

Joss sticks for the smoke and for thesev i used 2 flash guns, either side in line with the joss stick. You can easily only use one though but make sure if is to the side or even slightly behind the smoke as you dont want any light falling on the background. I used some black card about 3 ft behind, completely dark room and camera set to 1/160, f14 and ISO 200 which ensured that the background stayed black and the smoke just lit by the flash
