    Capturing Light

No posts from me for months as, due to CoVid, I've pretty much stayed home. I haven't been on holiday, had weekends away or even days out and the steam excursions that pass by us have been on hold so not much by way of photo opportunities other than to snap the cruise ships 'resting' in Torbay. Well, that and to explore the abstract capture of light.

I've touched on this in the past where a long exposure and either zooming a well-lit static object or capturing a well-lit moving object has produced some pleasing results but it's really only during the pandemic that I've taken it a bit more seriously especially with so many Christmas decorations to play with.

This is a two second zoom of an array of blue, white and yellow LEDs fixed to a neighbours wall:

Exactly the same array but a one second exposure while moving the camera in circles:

A two second exposure of some colour chasing LED lights while moving the camera in circles:

A two second exposure of the same lights but zooming:

1.3 seconds LED lights, up and down, left to right:

A 15 second exposure of a bunched up string of Christmas lights:

One of the cruise ships in the bay (Zaandam). Six second exposure and waving the camera around:

A 2.5 second up and down, left to right exposure of Torquay harbour:

A 30 second exposure of Torquay harbour while waving the camera around (and wondering why I'd chosen such a long exposure):

Hi John, nice to hear from you again, WOW what a set, very impressive especially the 3rd and 4th. Was that just a straight zoom, or with a bit of panning

        Thanks guys.

Trev: 3 and 4 were circular motion with a bit of panning but no zoom.

        Cheers,
        John

Great set, 3,4 and 5 for me.
I just wish I had thought of doing this when the Christmas lights where about!

Interesting collection of images all have merit but l prefer 3&4.
