    Steam train meets Time Tunnel

Although I have much to do today I have taken some time out to have another look a PS; the image I created from one of my photos at the Blue Bell railway reminded me of Time Tunnel or Stargate so that is the inspiration behind the image.
I know what I wanted to create but I do not think this one works, your opinions would be appreciated.

Below you will see the new image alongside the original.

Your comments are welcome and thank you for taking the time to look.

Very creative, well done. I don't know your reasons for thinking this doesn't work?

My only thoughts about it is the slight desaturation to the front of the engine and the disjointed appearance around the shiny copper pipe area. I wonder what it would look like with the engine in full colour but retaining the blur on the Gold lettering(possibly adding a blur to the front wheel too) to create that sense of forward motion of the engine coming out of the time tunnel.

A great image Rose that does work and I would echo Peter’s comments on the train. Very inventive, well done.

Another inventive image, would it be rude to ask how you achieve these images?

                    Hello Peter,
Thank you for your comments, and I agree entirely with your observations — that is why I thought the image wasn’t as crisp as I would have wished.
The software I use is Photoshop elements 12 which is absolutely fine for the correction / removal of blemishes on old photographs but as I have found out this week I cannot create the images which I have in my mind.

So I may have to bite the bullet and upgrade if I want to do anymore creative work.
that is another question altogether as I have a brand new Apple laptop with the M1 chip, so I’ll have to look at compatibility!

                      Hello Wrinklyrocker.
Thank you for looking and asking, it certainly is not rude to ask and I’m more than happy to share my knowledge.

I use photoshop elements 12, when I have my free time this evening I’ll call up the software and then write it here in a post for you.
                      So watch this space!

                        Hello Wrinklyrocker,
`Well, I managed to grab sometime at my pc this evening and have written the steps I took to create the images. All I would say is that this is strictly amateur not professional.

The software I use is Photoshop Elements 12, so you may find the commands differ according to the programme you use —- just experiment and have fun.

For Steam Train meets Time Tunnel:-
                        open image in PS

                        STAGE ONE
                        choose the heading ‘filter’
                        then Distort
followed by Polar Coordinates (this is a sub menu of Distort)

                        STAGE TWO
                        Filter / Distort / Twirl

                        STAGE THREE
                        Filter / Sketch / Chrome

The above will give you the Chrome patterned oval

Having completed the first three stages call up a second copy of the original image

                        STAGE FOUR
use the magnetic lasso on the train
                        copy image

                        STAGE FIVE
paste image of train on the Chrome oval

                        STAGE SIX
Position the train, then adjust the angle and size
then Image / blur on the train to create the impression of speed.

                        FOR FLOWER POWER
choose a suitable photograph and upload to PS

                        STAGE ONE
Use the magnetic lasso on one flower
                        Then Select / Inverse

                        STAGE TWO
Filter / distort / polar coordinates

                        STAGE THREE
                        filter / Distort / twirl

                        STAGE FOUR
Filter / stylise / glowing edges

                        Simples!

                        hope this is OK,
enjoy and I look forward to seeing some creative images.
                        Rose.

Thank you Colin, the photo is from 3yrs ago at the Bluebell railway and taken with my previous canon.
