    A Splash from Today

Rained all day so out came the kit again and an opportunity to try out my new opal perspex background

Shot at 1/160, f16, ISO 200, 2 flashes behind perspex with red and blue gels and red food colouring in the xanthan gum/water mix

Love the subtlety of the background, coupled with the long tendrils.

Lovely gradation in the background Stan

I like the swirls at the top of the tendril, it looks as though it's twisted

            Thanks guys

I am very pleased with the background - a bargain for £3. I also bought a pack of 48 sheets of different coloured cellophane to use as alternative gels and again they are very effective for the subtle and graduated background. I tried other colour combinations as well -

Haven't seen many of these for a while and how quickly a year passes since Colin stole the show with the first! You've clearly mastered the art, Stan - these are great!

Great backgrounds so your £3 is very well spent.

I have not really used mine since last winter - more something to keep you occupied then the weather is rubbish - probably be out regularly now for the next couple of months

a bargain but the postage doubled the price

I've always been fascinated by theses shots of your when they pop up on Flickr. Can't say I have the foggiest idea on how they are done. Do you need a blower of some kind to flatten the splash at the top? Timing seems to be crucial.

Its all done using a Splash Art kit which allows you to control one or two drops and the timing of the shutter - still need a bit of luck though and its not cheap although i see the guy is now selling a Splash Art ultra kit for a whopping £550

Makes sense about the timing I guess. One guy on 500px was saying he used hairdryers and all that to blow the water. Hmm I've been had lol
