    Day Tripper

20-02 Fab4_Street by Stephen Thompson, on Flickr

This is understandably a very popular attraction at Liverpool's pier head.

If I'd taken the 'normal' point of view I'd just end up with a regular family snapshot as visitors, sightseers and other Day Trippers gathered around the Fab4. So to achieve the image I had in my mind's eye I needed to shoot from the reverse angle.

I positioned myself across the road, behind the statue with a long lens, but the mid-afternoon location was so busy that despite waiting for nearly an hour I just couldn't get my shot due the constant stream of fans posing for holiday snaps.

I moved on, and returned in the early evening, and my patience was rewarded when this young girl turned up right on cue.

I had to crop tighter on the left than I might have preferred due to a group of people who were just a few yards behind her, and this meant that to achieve a balance I also needed a tight crop on the right.

My only real disappointment is that the girl wasn't making eye contact with her idols, but hey-ho I got my shot.

EOS70D, Tamron SP 70-300mm and Velbon monopod.

Then you would probably have bumped into Lovely Rita. This could go on and on!

There's a statue of Eleanor Rigby on Stanley Street in Liverpool city centre, just round the corner from the Cavern.

As soon as I escape from this shielding thing she's next on my to-do list.
