Re: mersey at night time
Hi Keith
welcome to the madhouse
First your better off using flickr to post images here otherwise they end up looking soft as I'm sure as you can see above
Regarding the images the second is better as that looks sharper, the first the composition isn't really working with the boat going out of the image and it doesn't look sharp - that could be a direct upload issue, but I don't think it is
Whilst both are exposed well the content is pretty thin and theres no real interest in the shots other than being well exposed night photos showing a boat - sorry ...
I think your moving in the right direction and you just need to think about the composition a bit more - also try reading about the rule of 3rds:- Ian
5D Mk III, 24-105 / 70-200 f2.8 L / 100-400 Mk II / 100 macro / 16-35 L / 11-24 L / 1.4 & 2x converters and a bad back carrying it all ;o)

Re: mersey at night time
Keith, I agree with the above. Aside from the softness probably due to direct upload, your technique seems fine, it's just the composition. The big boats kind of 'get in the way' of the rest of the Mersey life, so your images need to either focus on aspects of them, or reduce their impact.
Interested in seeing your next go too.Canon EOS 7D
