Excellent Trev - how do they manoeuvre the boat onto the cradle when recovering? I would have thought they would do it in the water rather than when beached.

Hi John, they just pull it up onto the Carrier then swing it around in readiness for relaunching. When they launch, they take it out until its jets are in the water then away it goes. Two additional pictures showing the launch and recovery. The Tractor unit is a awesome bit of kit, cost over a million.
I had strong family connection with the lifeboat and remember well when the old lifeboat the RNLB Maria Noble was launched on Christmas Day 1956 in a Force 8 gale with twenty foot waves. Two members of the crew were swept overboard, sadly Will Carder lost his life, Jack Phillips managed to get ashore and was found on the beach. Back then the lifeboat was pulled out of the boathouse by rope by members of the public.

The tractor really is an impressive piece of kit.
