Hi, I am contemplating buying the 2 x converter for use with my 70-200L is Mk2 and 5D Mk3. I am interested to know what experiences other users have had with the converter especially regarding the affect in aperture. At present I use a Sigma 100-500 for reach but am happy to loose a bit of reach to have the quality of Canon. I will apreciate any feedback please.

I use to use the MK 3 on my 70-200L IS MK2 on a 1DX, it is fine, the autofocus though does slow down a bit compared to the 1.4( that you do not notice at all IMHO). Best bet try it in a shop, you do not need to buy it from them, take in your lens and camera

I have both the 1.4x and the 2x, both Mk iii (don't buy the mkii). I have several Canon L lenses and they both work well. You will lose a full f stop with the 1.4x and 2 with the 2x.The 2x can make an image slightly softer, but unless you want to do a huge crop or large print, it is fine. It is a lot cheaper that buying a 400mm lens. Have a look at some of the used ones that the main photography shop sell. You can save yourself £££s.Comment
