    Canon G1X- Zooming problem.

    I recently bought a factory re-furbished Canon G1X and it has worked very well. However, recently I noticed that intermittently the lens would not zoom out when I use the lever or by he same token, it wouldn't retract to the wide angle setting via the little lever. However, this problem goes away when I switch off and switch on again- i.e the zoom lever to zoom outwards or to retract works fine.

    I have been in touch with the seller who is prepared to correct any problems under the Warranty. However I don't wish to return the camera if by chance the problem is with me- in that I am not doing something correctly.

    I would like to know from other G1X owners whether they have experienced this small problem or what I am doing wrong before I send it away for "repair"!

    Thank you.

    Mat, I have a G15 (I didn't want the extra size of the G1X) but have no similar issue I would personally send it back if it is covered by warrantee.

      Thanks,Ian. It is covered by guarantee and so I will send it back as the seller will also pay my return postage! The images taken with this camera are very sharp and full of detail. The Seller will also give me a full refund if I want it!

        We've had a couple of G-series units with no such problem. I would definitely send it back - moreso since it's a G-1X! It's a no-brainer :-)

        Cheers;

        PS: I did a Google search for G1X zooming problem, and your post here was the only relevant entry!

        PPS: As a matter of interest; why did you opt for the G-series over the bridge units you were also looking at?
        Cheers;

          Thanks Lee. Yes, I am sending the camera back today. No problem with that. My G1X was a replacement for my rather outdated G7 which I have sold. I am still not giving up on the Bridge camera for travel purposes. I like the G series as they are excellent cameras and even with the zooming problem with my G1X pictures I have taken todate are very very good- extremely sharp and good definition.
