    Canon G15 & 580EX flash gun

I am wondering whether I can safely use my Canon 580EX flash gun on my Canon G15? I note that the manual says it can be used OK but the combination looks out of proportion in that my flash gun towers over th G15. Should I therefore go in for a smaller external flash gun?

    Many thanks

I have used my 580 on my G10 without any issues ... and yes it does look strange. But if you need the power of the 580 you have no choice.

There are smaller (less powerful) Canon flashguns ...

I use a 270EX on my G12, tried the 580 once and it just looked wrong (although it worked ok).

I have used my G10 with a 580 on a bar and extension lead does not look as bad that way, still looks silly tho

Used my 480EX II on my wife's new G16 and she told me to take it aff as it looked "silly".... but it worked.
Thinking of getting a 270EX II as it "looks" more sensible

                  Hi Nat
I have used the 580EX with a G12 experimenting in the past - it's a bit awkward hand held but ok with a tripod

                    Re: Canon G15 & 580EX flash gun

Nat it works fine with all Canon cameras you could as suggested buy a flash bracket where the camera is screwed onto it via the tripod bush and the flashgun sits above and to the side plus it gets your flashgun of the top thereby stopping red eye etc

Of course you can go crazy and put an ST-E3-RT transmitter on the G-series cameras and then control off-camera flashes via radio
