    It's Open!!

    The new Library of Birmingham, that is.
    A few shots from a visit on a very dull day when only carrying the little Ixus -

    The building by the side of the more traditional Baskerville House -

    A couple of views of the inside -

    The Rotunda -

    A book area looking towards the central escalators-

    Some views to the outside -

    The Rep Theatre through the "lace" -

    - and the fairly new "Cube" building from one of the outside roof gardens -

    Well worth a visit - hope to organise a West Midlands local group outing to this area in the near future.

    Oh, and you can borrow books from there as well.....

    Cheers, Chris.
    Just chuggin' along.

    I'm not a great fan of very modern architecture especially for utility buildings like libraries, hospitals, etc. Just me and old age I guess not 'getting it'.

      Hi Chris;

      This made the BBC national morning news last week... should be good for some abstracts; alongside the Selfridges building!

      Birmingham is certainly spending a great deal of money on ramping-up the city centre... but then it is our second city in the country!

      Cheers;

        Certainly stands out against its classical neighbour.
