Train Pilgrimage from N.Wales to Glasgow- 5th May 2014 with the Canon G15.

This is in praise of the Canon G15 which was used to record a Pilgrimage on Bank holiday Monday (5th May 2014) when people from the St.Asaph Diocese, North Wales went to the Glasgow (St. Mungos) cathderal to honour it's Patron saint, St Kintergern alias St.Mungo. To explain this unique trip a brief background, will hopefully be not out of place. History has on record that when St.Kintergern had to flee Clyde,he sought refuge in Wales, via Cumbria, staying for a time with St.David at St.David's. He then moved on to Gwynedd where he founded a Cathedral at Llanelwy- St.Asaph in English. In Llanelwy(St.Asaph) he had a disciple called Asaph who helped him in his ministry. Kentigern would frequently pray standing in the icy cold river -river Elwy.On one occasion, having suffered very serverely under this hardship,he sent the boy Asaph to bring some burning coal to burn and warm him. Asaph brought the live coals in his apron without it burning through his apron. Kintergern noted the sanctity of the boy and when he was recalled to Strathclyde, after the battle of Arfderydd, Asaph was consecrated Bishop in 573 to succeed him and become the first Welsh bishop of St.Asaph.

A special train was charted to take some 150 people to Glasgow from Llandudno,Colwyn Bay,Rhyl,Prestatyn, to Chester starting around 7am and returning around 11.30pm to Llandudno.

All the following images were taken with the G15, TV80;AV auto ISO 400,auto WB.The built in flash was used on a very few occasions.

Nat...another good set of photos, especially considering the different lighting you had to cope with, Debbie

Thought you might like these Paul Stw- my second visit after about 25 years!!!!!! Did not have much time to look around- arrived in Glasgow Central at 12.40 & departure at 6pm. The Cathedral visits took most of my time. I might post a few more pics under a different thread- my views of Glasgow! Much to recommend as an ancient and historic City.

I understand that cathedral was used by the fire service on the day of the helicopter crash. I was based down there for a few hours on photo assignment. It's been dull and grey for weeks now. It's very depressing lol

Hi Nat-- lighting in Glasgow Cathedral must have been a kind of difficult for you -- it is quite a dark building, especially by the Shrine to St. Mungo.

PaulStw, the train journey was fine, weather wise, until we reached Carlisle and we could see the weather changing. Anyway, all part of the trip. Debbie, the lighting in the Cathedral was very difficult but I am pleased that the Canon G15 coped very well, after I adjusted the settings. I certainly could not have walked (which I did) from St.Andrews Cathedral) with my larger camera + 24-105 (ones I would have brought and happy I did not!!).Thank you Wayne for your comments. The photos would have been meaningless without some sort of narrative/background to it. I may post a few more on my flickr site later on as I have quite a lot of pics from this trip.
