Love the shots, amazing place. Had a quick look on map and lake looks about 3 miles long, must be great. Quite a trip from Devon.

            impressive - nice shots ....

just less of this G12, if the wives see it we'll never get away with needing big SLR's & lenses

Ha ha, thanks Ian, it's not even a G12 but an ancient G10 complete with a sticky zoom lever and 'shutter' lens cap

It's not perfect as the noise at high ISO is intrusive, the zoom is a bit short and I think these results from this trip were a lot more contrasty than previously (maybe I've accidentally changed a setting) but it's still the best compact I've used.

I like it because I can pop it the top pocket of my bike jacket and quickly take shots without even getting off the bike or removing my helmet. It's also a lot less valuable should I break it. Some of the areas I've ridden in (Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Yorkshire and around where I live in the South West of course) are stunning and I would dearly like to use my big SLR's & lenses but just can't carry them or would be comfortable with the risk even if I could.

I think it's time to look for another biking compact but what to choose? Not an EOS-M as I'd never get it in my pocket with a lens attached so probably another G Powershot.

              Cheers,
              John

Thanks for that what a nice coincidence, you'll know the mountain roads over the top another local recommended we take to see Lake Vyrnwy. On the way there it was the one that approaches the lake from the north and I used the western one to return (friend had to leave for Donington). Here's a few shots of the area...

On the way up Cwm Hirnant,:

i think the bwlch is where they do the aircraft shots from above .as they practice through the valley ,keep threatening to go but i think my climbing days are long gone
