Llyn Branne - A different view in mono

Quadphoto's excellent pano of the lake yesterday reminded me that I'd converted one of my shots from last year to mono so here's a less conventional view of Llyn Brianne: looking down the overflow sluice:

Just spotted the typo in the heading but can't change it now

    Cheers,

I really like the way the light is catching the ripples of the water as it flows down the sluice channel - very effective.

Wonder if you need all the sky? I 'scroll cropped' it to just above the ridge line and it felt a bit stronger.

        Either way...

Thanks Nigel, the sky was the part I was less happy with so I think cropping it entirely does improve it.

Curious, it almost has a tilt-shift look to it. If you don't mind me asking - how did you do the BW conversion?

I'm a recent convert to the excellent Silver Efex Pro 2. It has a number of presets to use as a starting point which can then be tweaked to give the desired effect. Unfortunately, one shortcoming I haven't found a way around is that when the edit is complete the image is saved but, unlike RAW processing where the 'recipe' is also saved, there seems to be no way to review and modify what was actually done. Still, it's a very good way of converting colour images to mono and... it's now free!
