    JoGLE

It wasn't intended to be a JoGLE run (and it took three weeks) but, as I was in Falmouth for the weekend, it seemed like a good idea at the time to ride over to Lands End before heading home and, had the sun shone as it had on Saturday, it would have been. However, it rained continuously for the whole 220 miles with much low cloud making the ride uncomfortable and occasionally damn well dangerous... just to tick a box!

I hadn't been to Lands End for years but it's so commercialised I shouldn't have been surprised to find 'The Sign' behind a barrier and a booth housing a pro photographer with the franchise to take celebratory shots. For this he customises the sign by adding a 'finger' pointing to whatever part of the planet you are from. I declined his offer and plonked the bike (having received special permission to ride it slowly with flashing hazards down the footpath) outside the barrier with the photo being taken by a willing volunteer using my camera.

    Cheers,
    John

Nice pics John. I remember Jogle as I was there two years ago and hope to go to St.Ives next month. I love Cornwall and it's narrow roads!

      Thanks Nat

If driving to St. Ives next month I'd suggest parking where you can find a space and walk in - somewhere around Bristol ought to do it

I jest, of course, but the town centre is just about off-limits with access and parking restrictions but there is a huge carpark at the top of the town with a nice amble down the hill (coming back up is a challenge, though, so use the bus). Alternatively there is a park and (train) ride just outside the town at Lelant Saltings.

Then just enjoy one of the prettiest towns in the country (arguably made less pretty by all those who seek to enjoy its prettiness - and I count myself in their numbers).

      Cheers,
      John

Thanks John. I will be staying in one of my timeshare exchange units in Hayley. My present car is a Toyota Yaris Sprite hatch is small enough for narrow roads but not ideal on the motorway. As you know, I am not much of a walker with walking difficulties etc. So I will always minimise my walking

The fence and the booth and the dreadful crass commercialism may be recent but the pro-photographer isn't. Fifty or so years ago I went there as a child with my parents and there was one then - if you wanted the signpost to show your home town you paid your money and he did the business - must still have the photo somewhere...
