Going on 30years ago, when I bought my first Hard Disk Drive, I thought I would never need to buy another !
It was a 10 MEGABITE drive, and upgraded my twin 7" floppy drive Intel 8088 machine with its first Hard disk drive !
Thirty years later I find myself with an 128 Gb SSD system drive, with a 10,000 rpm, 6 Terrabite Raid array.
I wonder what it will be in 2020 ?!!

      Re: Backing up your PC

I manually backup my pics etc to a 2nd internal hard drive, it used to be a USB desktop drive but the case failed. I also upload quite a lot of my pics to Facebook, I figure that their servers should be reasonably reliable.

I've got a Buffalo 2TB hard drive which is set up to go into stand-by when not in use. I use Syncback to do a weekly back up of all My Documents (including image files) and windows back up to create a disk image.

I use an internal hard drive for all my 'keeper' images in tiffs, these are backed up (using allwaysync-free syncing tool) to an external hard drive.

I also back up to 'the cloud' (as jpg's rather than tiffs), I have 20GB free storage on Windows Skydrive.

Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography- George Eastman

Its called - My Book Essential, it has a 1Tb hard disk and once connected to your PC backs up automatically.
The best idea would be not to use any internal HDD just in case of an virus it best to use an External HDD something like 3TB or 2TB to back all the RAW and JPEG files
