I hope that someone on here can help me with a Forum problem. I upgraded to a new Samsung Laptop and Windows 8 last week. The only problem I have encountered, so far, is that my <Enter> will not work on the EOS Forums; neither these threads nor in PM. Any suggestions? It is exclusive to these forums only

How do you mean Bob? Can you describe what it is that you're trying to do with the key?Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF 135mm F/2 L, EF 16-35mm F/4 L, EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 28mm f/2.8

I'm not sure Bob, do you have UK English as your default keyboard layout, or US? http://www.howtogeek.com/121169/how-...-in-windows-8/Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF 135mm F/2 L, EF 16-35mm F/4 L, EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 28mm f/2.8

Re: New Hardware & Windows 8
Hi Bob,
I'm trying it now on an old IBM Thinkpad with Windows 8.
Seems to work fine.
I'm currently using Firefox, I'll have another go in IE.

Re: New Hardware & Windows 8
Hi again,
This time I'm using Microsoft IE, also seems to be working.
if it's working in other applications, e.g. Word, then it's probably not just a duff key. I have a vague recollection of a keyboard diagnostic somewhere on the net. I'll see if I can track it down.
One other thought, can you make sure NumLock is off.

Re: New Hardware & Windows 8
Bob,
Here is a piece of freeware (30 day trial) which will tell you what the computer sees when you press a key http://www.passmark.com/products/keytest.htm

Re: New Hardware & Windows 8
Thanks Russell, that confirms that the <Enter> key is being pressed but it still doesn't work here AND I have just discovered that it doesn't work an Conon Fodder either. That form is also using vBulletin and that seems to be the common-denominator. Does anyone know about any problems with vB? Edit: It seems to be a known problem - https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...0300-enter-keyLast edited by Bawbee; 13-02-2013, 20:12.Bob Turner

Well, that's a strange one Bob. Have you tried Firefox or Chrome?Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF 135mm F/2 L, EF 16-35mm F/4 L, EF 50mm f/1.8, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 28mm f/2.8

Re: New Hardware & Windows 8
Bawbee,
I may have a solution. The following describes "compatibility view".
Compatibility View
Sometimes the website you’re visiting doesn't look right. It shows up as a jumble of out-of-place menus, images, and text boxes. What's going on? One possible explanation: The site might have been designed for an earlier version of Internet Explorer. If Internet Explorer recognizes that the webpage isn't compatible, you'll see the Compatibility View button on the Address bar. (Not true this refers to IE 9, Russell)
In Compatibility View, websites will be displayed as if you were viewing them in a previous version of Internet Explorer, which will often correct display problems. You don’t need to click the button for a site after you’ve done it once—the next time you visit the site, Internet Explorer 9 will automatically show it in Compatibility View. (If you ever want to go back to browsing with Internet Explorer 9 on that site, just click the Compatibility View)
Elsewhere on the web is a report that the Enter key problem can be overcome by switching to compatibility view.
Assuming that you're in IE 10, you first need to get the Tools menu.
If you don't have it, right click in a blank space at the top of the IE screen and select "Menu Bar" from the drop down.
From the Menu Bar select Tools and Compatibility View Settings, you then get a window asking if you wish to add "this site" (i.e. the EOS Forum) to compatibility view.
Do that & see if it makes a difference. Good Luck.
