    Tesco Hudl2

I am considering the purchase of one of these, as a convenient means of transporting photos to show family and friends.

I have a good lap-top, but its hardly 'pocket size', and Mrs S has a Samsung Galaxy Tab3, which while having a nice sharp display, having a 10.1" screen, is again not pocket size.

Having read a number of reviews on the Hudl2, both pro and end-user, it does review very well, and is much better spec'd than the Kindle Fire HD. Also much cheaper than Apple's offering.

The two main complaints, seem to be poor battery life, and the slowness of the installed Tesco loader. However, as I understand it, the latter issue can be resolved by uninstalling the Tesco loader, and installing a readily available 'third party loader'.

I know there is a lot of hype surrounding Apple tablets, but they are unnecessarily expensive IMO, and quite frankly, I much preferred my Samsung Galaxy phone (which I gave to my wife), to the iPhone 4S that I currently use.

    Re: Tesco Hudl2

I bought one for the wife for Christmas to stop her glueing her nose to the pc. I installed the Nova launcher. Battery hasn't been an issue at all, although she doesn't spend hours on it straight, it's more than adequate. I wouldn't let either put you off. I had the original Galaxy tab, and my daughter uses an ipad mini both of which it is at least as good as, if not better.

Paul's link looks a very good set of hints to follow, though I would personally replace Nova launcher with Google Now - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ncher&hl=en_GB - which I use on my Moto G. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S and the Touchwiz interface makes using different launchers a bit pointless or I'd be using it on that as well.

As for the Hudl2, a couple of colleagues bought them over the Christmas period and are both impressed with them, and the price they paid using Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

Thanks guys that's very encouraging and useful feedback

Pretty much makes up my mind to get one.

I'll wait until the end of the month when the wife gets her next Tesco voucher allocation, because at the moment each £5 voucher is worth £10 if used to purchase the Hudl2. Although she usually leaves them in for a year, then uses them for the Christmas shopping, she should have the equivalent of around £50 worth by the end of this month.

BTW, yes, I have told her that I'm going to 'nick' this lot to buy a Hudl2.

I had to leave the club card vouchers as she uses ours to book days out, but yes they really do make it a bargain. Shopping at Aldi saves even more though ;-)

            A question Paul.

I assume that I can upload images from the PC, onto the Hudl2?

It has a micro SD card slot which is probably easiest, or I guess you could upload. Android is more flexible in that regard than ios.

                That's no problem then Paul.

My main PC has a variety of memory card slots, albeit not micro SD, but an adpter will take care of that.

You can always share out the drive/folder on your PC and then use something like CM File Manager on your Hudl. You can then browse the folder on your Hudl. Copying files this was will be far, far slower than direct to the micro SD card though.

Indeed Tony, that is an alternative.

However, have just ordered a Micro SD Card to USB 2.0 adapter from Amazon. £2.95 inc delivery.

Have to wait until the end of the month for Mrs S's next Tesco vouchers to be issued, by which time they should equate to £40 off the price of the Hudl2.

                      Re: Tesco Hudl2

Ok, I now have a Hudl2, and so far I'm impressed. Nice sharp display, and the Android OS is easy to navigate.

But then I always did prefer my Android smartphone (now passed to my wife), to the iPhone 4S that I now use.

I can't see any problems with battery life, as it outlasts my wife's Samsung Tab2, by a fair margin.

It is surprisingly heavy for a small (8.3") Tablet.

My one BIG complaint with the Hudl2 is the amount of Tesco 'widgets', that apparently can't be deleted

                      This kinda spoils the experience.

I'm about to order a 32Gb Micro SD card, to take the memory up the the specified 48Gb max. Albeit, I read that some people have theirs running at 64Gb.

Dave another thought about image transfer. It's probably likely that if you connect the Hudl to your PC with the USB cable the storage on the Hudl will appear as another drive on the PC. If so then you'll be able to copy images quite easily.

You could always try Go Launcher. Gives more customizable experience.

Also take a look at CM File Manager, allows easy navigation of storage even network shares.
