Is 22inch big enough

Hi

Everyone I am thinking about replacing one of my screens for a bigger screen I currently have a 13" and a 15" screen. The 15" is the one that I do my editing on. I am only able to buy second hand at the moment due to limited funds but have seen a couple of 22 " screens within my budget or would you recommend waiting until I can afford a 24".

you'll find a jump from 15" to 22" a huge improvement, and you will wonder how you'll cope with the larger monitor, but trust me it will soon feel quite normal and wonder how you worked on small screen LOL ...but my advice would be wait till you have the funds for 24" ....

When I last upgraded I went from 22" to 27" and when looking at the monitor in the shop was wondering how I would cope with having a TV size monitor on my desk... Now it just feels normal

I edit on a Benq GL2450 24" LED Paul and it's great so that'll be good. breathes new life into LR. Budget for a screen calibrator though. The cheaper monitors tend to need a bit of correction.

... and whilst not wishing to teach you to suck eggs ... make sure the graphics card can make the most of the prospective big screen (e.g. resolution, clock rates, et seq) and you can plug the two together (DVI/HDMI etc).

Thanks for the comments I have access to a calibration tool it looks like I am better waiting for a 24" monitor.

Is it frowned upon using a TV as a monitor.

Thanks I have an Asus GTX465 graphics card with 2 DVI outputs and 1 HDMI output

you could always do the big jump and go from PC to Mac - thats what I did, best move ever and the screen is pin sharp

Ian I agree that the Mac's are great for photo editing but I just can't justify the money for one at the moment. I managed to piece my desktop computer together to replace my laptop because a very kind friend (AndyA) gave me his old motherboard and graphics card and all I had to do was get hold of an ATX case, power supply and hard drive. I just don't have a big budget for computers and photographic upgrades so I try and use what I have to its best ability. Any photographic upgrades have to come from money gained from my photography, which is harder than I thought.

If money was no object I would have the 27" imac, 5DmkIII and 24-70 2.8, 16-35 f4 and 70-200 2.8 (I will have this camera gear eventually)

27" imac is a stunning machine ....but as you say it comes at a price. I was lucky as my accountant told me I needed to spend some company money ...

but if thats out then save for the biggest quality monitor you can buy as you will soon outgrow even the new one

I have been using a 22"monitor for sometime now, and although I find it more than adequate, when I do upgrade, I'll probably go bigger.

Because that's what we do, isn't it.

Like Ian I made the jump from PC to Mac a few months ago, mainly for the photo editing improvements it would bring. I couldn't stretch to the 27" and went for the 21.5". It's a gorgeous screen, very clear and makes working on it a dream.

I went from a 19" PC monitor, would never go back now.

Have you tried Apple TV? you can stream straight from the Mac to a TV great for showing photos

Not tried yet no. You've tempted me though as didn't know pics would stream. Ssshhh don't tell the wife.....
