Pictures from Computer to i pad

Last week I bought an i pad air 2 and have been trying to copy pictures from the computer to the i pad via i tunes and following these instructions

To transfer photos from your computer to your iPad, you need to have iTunes installed on your PC. Connect your iPad to the computer with the data cable. Launch iTunes, and click on the iPad icon from under Devices. Click on the Photos tab, and check the box "Synch photos from." Click "Choose folder" from the drop-down menu, and select your picture folder. Now that the folder is on iTunes, you can select the photos you want to transfer to your iPad, or transfer them all. Finally, click the Synch/Apply button at the bottom right of the page
Seems fairly simple and i managed to transfer a batch of shots OK. But then I tried to add more shots and that's when it all fell apart - it copied the new selected shots but then deleted every shot I had previously transferred, from the ipad. Same thing has happened a number of times, transfers the new ones but deletes everything else

    Ideas pleas

Like Ian I've used Dropbox to get images on to our iPad. I have also when travelling and no access to the Internet and therefore no Dropbox access, used a Apple dongle that allows you to connect an SD Card (jpgs only) to the pad and import them. That gives me the opportunity to look at those images on a larger screen.
Stan I wonder if your problem is that the synch is looking at a folder in which you had your first images (on your PC) that transferred correctly.
Did you by any chance remove the original transferred images from that PC folder and replace them with new ones? which is then causing the synch to delete the originals on the pad and add the new/replacement whilst at the same time deleting the first ones transferred as they are no longer in the PC folder. I hope that makes sense?

would have thought whether mac or PC, if using I tunes would be the same ?

Cheers Peter - I have a lot of my photos on my phone, stored on an SD card in individual albums according to the date and place shot and it is that card, plugged into the computer that I have been using for the transfer, so no images have been removed etc

As I am only transferring jpegs, a dongle would probably be the best idea for me - is this what you are thinking of http://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-iPad-i...s=ipad+adapter ?

I bought a generic SD to lightning connector from eBay which works really well, but only for jpegs of course. Would be great to be able to do the same with RAW files but doesn't seem possible.

Re: Pictures from Computer to i pad

Stan, I rarely copy from iMac to iPad, but when I do I go through this iTunes rigmarole. To get around it I have a folder called 'Sync to iPad' into which I copy everything I want on the iPad. Then when I sync, yes it means I am re-copying photos across that are already there, and yes it is duplication on my hard drive, but it was the only way I could get it to work. If you just try copying 'new' photos from your library, as you say, you lose the old.

I have ordered one and hope that will make life easier. Not bothered about RAW, I pad is not really big enough for editing anyway

I say that more as I mainly only shoot in RAW. Would be great when out and about to view the images on the fly on a screen bigger than the back of the camera.

I have always shot raw + JPEG. They don't take too much card space and are useful and easier to view on the computer - I don't have a program to view the raw - and get an idea if the raw is worth keeping or deleting
