    Another 'what laptop' query .....

Looking to get a laptop as a backup to my main PC & wondering about specs for running Lightroom & Photoshop. It was easy with my PC as I was able to over spec - I7 5930K, 64GB RAM & GTX980Ti but for a laptop obviously things are different. I only want to be able to edit single RAW files, no batch processing...

I rather like the idea of a smallish (13") model & was looking at something like an HP Envy like this: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Pr...3&opt=&sel=NTB

It has an I7 7500U processor, 8GB RAM, SSD & a modest GeForce MX150 card (2GB) which I'd have though should be more than ample but a review on Amazon suggested that after 20 minutes Photoshop work it slowed to an almost stop due to CPU throttling (I guess the smaller laptops do get hotter).

Any thoughts folks? Ideally not much more than £1000 & not a Mac. Would I be better with a regular size screen ??

    Cheers
    Les

I bought a Dell XPS 15 from their outlet and can't fault it. Whilst the 15 is probably over budget the 13 isn't.

Thanks Chris, that's interesting. How did you find their 'certified refurbished' for quality - does it appear like new? BTW, what spec was your XP15, processor/RAM etc & does it have separate GPU ?

Just spotted that you can get a new model with 8th Gen processor for £1299 with £100 cashback. I'm tempted ...

Couldn't tell it apart from new. It's got a quad core i7-6700, 32GB, 1TB SSD and a Nidia graphics card, GTX1060 I think. But it did cost north of £1500.

I would at least double the RAM. My 8GB MacBook Pro tends to run out of puff and while it’s Windows you’re talking about, doubling the memory is a decent step in some future proofing.
