    R3 update

So - had my first real chance to use the R3 with the RF 100-500 in anger at the weekend, 10 hours a day both days trackside.
I spent a little while tweaking to what suited me and all I can say is "yep - that will more than do for me" once the power settings were sorted to shut the evf off quite quickly the battery level improved a lot - last weekend I had a quick try out at Brands hatch, with the rain cover on it kept covering the eye piece so making the drain a lot more i.e. 100 photo's down to 80%. . . . . yep freaked me out also.

Saturday however, even with checking shots, trying a few of the different focusing functions etc etc I manage 1780 shots before changing batteries, bear in mind the camera gets turned on at around 07:00 and not turned off until about 18:30, I cover multiple series averaging 400 drivers and need to try to get between 10 > 20 shots from various points of each and every one so hard work for any camera set up.

I was going to try and post up a few sample shots but honestly - really struggled to even pick a few, even panned at 1/20 and had keepers - if it's okay with admin I will just put up two links to the separate galleries.

May not be to everyone's 'cup of tea' but I am so very glad I moved across, still a lot to learn but hey, would be boring if it was easy huh.

Great images David, very well done. Can't speak for the R3, but I use a R5 - 100/500mm a great combo

Great photos David, the R3 worked well for you. Especially liked the pics of the Morgans, right up my street but way out of my budget! It’s also a long time since I’ve seen a lotus cortina, used to work with someone who had one donkeys years ago.

          Thanks guys,
Ian - we really do have an awesome array of cars from the 50's / 60's right up to modern stuff - my favourites (not at this meeting) are the Super saloons / thunder saloons.

After updating to the new 'new' firmware had to try the new highspeed setting - took me half an hour to stop laughing. . . . it is ridiculous!

For a must have capture i.e. kingfisher diving or a batter hitting a ball this would be truly awesome!

I dialled it back to 100 shots per second :p in a burst of 10 - basically sounds like a single shot and ready to go again straight away, nothing exciting just a chick chewing lunch - beak moving and slight tail move but jees

Only way I could show all 10 shots was like this - full screen scrolling though it's like a movie clip

one of the batch (tight crop but still nailed it)

One thing you really have to watch - I also captured a cormorant in flight, great wing spread / selection BUT there is no continuous focusing when it shoots so if the action is moving toward or away from you the last set of shots will not be pin sharp.

I'm not sure I will use it very much whilst racing but it is really going to be fun with wildlife for sure.

            .DAVID.
