Patent: Supertelephoto DO Lenses With Macro Features

    400mm, 600mm and 800mm DO Lenses
Patents have shown up showing new DO optical formulas with 2:1, 1:1 and 1:4 macro functions.

Adding macro functionality to super telephoto lenses would be a pretty cool feature. It’s also good to see DO patents continue to show up, it’d be nice to see new DO lenses.

I saw that on Rumours and although very interesting, it usually takes years for a patent idea to go into full production. Secondly, no DO lenses produces to date have had a particularly good reputation for sharpness. They are generally much lighter than equivalent lenses though.

      On the same link page:
I think the 14-24mm f/2.8L is something to really look forward to.
I wonder how it compares to Nikon's as that lens is the benchmark.

      My dream lenses are growing, 14-24mm f/2.8L, 24-70mm f/2.8L II, 300mm f/2.8L IS II.
      just a dream .................
Canon EOS R6 Mark II, Canon RF 100-500mm f4.5-7.1L, Canon RF 24-105mm f4L

I would like to know what the 14-24 will retail at????

I cam probably get rid of my 17-40 and trade for a 14-24 as I have the 24-105 to cover the other range.
        Canon 600d
        Canon Ef 24-105mm f4L IS USM, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM,

You can bet it will be silly money. Nikon has been quite dominant with quality wide angles and their 14 - 24 was the flagship. I can't see Canon releasing anything that wouldn't beat the existing Nikon and as that sells for around £1,300, expect at least £1,500 and with Canon's recent pricing history, it could be nearer £2,000. With such a small zoom range, less design and engineering compromises and it should be a stunner.

Would be nice though. I could trade my very faithful 17 - 40mm and cover:

          8 - 15mm f4 L
          14 - 24 mm f2.8 L
          24 - 70mm f2.8 L
