    Re: Wider angle zoom lens.

Canon 10-22mm gets my vote and there is one for sale on the Forum, although at £460 I think it is a tad steep, a new one can be had for £100 more from Wex if you take into account the cashback and no doubt even cheaper from someone like Hdew.

    Regards Paul

I use a 15-85 on my crop 550D and love it. It's permanently attached.

The only negative I have is that at the 15mm end, it does distort some, but fairly easily corrected in pp. Picture quality is very good AFAIC, no issues.

      All the best, Mike.

Another fan of the 10-22, but it is very wide which means it only goes on if I have an urge for it (or one masochistic day where I made myself use only that lens at it widest). Interesting experiment, not sure I'd do it again!

The 18 - 55 sounds ideal IF it's wide enough.
I need to find a stockist to have a look.

            Re: Wider angle zoom lens.

Some time ago I used Excel to demonstrate the difference in field of view of various (rectilinear) lenses, here's the image, it shows how much wider 8 or 10mm is than 15, but also shows how much wider 15mm is than 17 (or 18) mm.

Of course it's nowhere near the same as actually looking through the camera, but does at least give a feel for what you may get.

              Fantastic.
              Thanks for that.

                Re: Wider angle zoom lens.

Don't get me wrong, the 10-22 is a cracking lens, I've kept mine even though I don't shoot crop sensor any more, just as I might one day and I'm not parting with it, but it is somewhat specialised and you need to like taking Ultra-Wide-Angle shots and the OP didn't sound like UWA was what they were after, hence my 15-85 suggestion.
