    Canon EF-S 10-22

On Marktplaats.nl, a Dutch sort of Ebay.com I saw a (second hand) Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens for € 375,00. I wonder has anybody of you experience with this lens. It is a lens with an extreme wide angle for a crop camera.
    With kind regards,

It's a very good lens, provided wide-angle is what you want. (I still have mine and I don't even shoot crop any more, I sold my other EF-S lens but I'm keeping this one in case I ever get another crop body.)

You can fit the 10-22 on FF by removing something called the baffles? Anyway I opted for the Tokina 11-16 2.8 as a so some astro stuff. The 10-22 seems to be a better all rounder, however, the Tokina also works on FF at the 16 end.

I don't have a FF, I have the EOS 550D. The Tokina 11-16 is for FF or crop-camera?

BUt what about the disortion with his lens? The foto's will not look like the avatar of DrJon?

Oke, I read somewhere horror stories about the huge amount of disortion and pillowshape photo's.

You need a single figure focal length fish eye lens to get that sort of look. The distortion on the Tokina is manageable, and a little better I think on the Canon. As an all rounder the Canon would get my vote If I could go back. Having to specifically edit my pics in Lightroom over Canon DPP is a pain. If I had the canon it wouldn't be an issue.

The Tokina is great for Astro and dark areas on a tripod, not specific to FF either. Works well on my 7D. There's not much to notice between 11-16 and the AF is a bit slower than canons USM. Canon it seems is sharper at the edges too.

A wee rule most wide angle shooters go by is that the Tokina for stars, and the canon for everything else. :)

I'm sorry, my Avatar was shot with the 8-15mm which is one of the sharpest lenses Canon make! By a mile the sharpest wide-angle... :-)

More seriously I think the 10-22 is actually better in the corners than the 14mm mk II, which is £1900 or so (I have both). It's a really good lens if you want to shoot UWA on a crop sensor...

I have a 10-22 but I never use it now I have full frame. I looked at the hack to fit it on FF and have decided I'm not quite that crazy. I really should take it out more with the 60D because when I did use it the results were superb.

I have one and I love it. Not used often as it's a bit specialist, but when it does come out it delivers superb results.

That looks like a very good price - so much so that I'd want to be sure why it's so low. Doesn't mean it won't be fabulous at bargain basement, just check carefully.
