    I would also suggest contact Canon at Elstree . I think you will find them helpful.

      Phoned Canon UK this morning, basically I was told that I was "unlucky" to have bought a faulty lens but it is not Canon policy to provide a FOC service after the 12 months warranty has expired. When I quoted the fit for purpose rights under the consumer act he was'nt interested. There was no interest in helping on any level, I suggested that if the camera was inspected and it was found to be user damage I would happily pay for repair, but would hope that if it was found to be equipment defect that Canon would reciprocate, this was dismissed as not part of Canon policy.
      I have been a Canon customer for years and have always had a good response in the past but I will think long and hard before I buy another Canon lens.
