    Canon 10-22 mm v Sigma 10-20mm

    Hi all,

I'm stuck between the 2 above lenses. I've read a few reviews and can't split them. Any thoughts or feedback or advice would be excellent.

    Thanks

        Re: Canon 10-22 mm v Sigma 10-20mm

I have no experience of the Canon lens, but I did have the Sigma 10-20, which I used on a 7D.

I was very happy with the lens, and found no shortcomings at all.

Having upgraded from the 7D to the 5D Mklll, the Sigma became surplus to my requirements, as it wasn't a full-frame lens.

I sold the Sigma to a mate of mine, who now uses it with his 650D, and he is delighted with it.

In Stephens original thread I posted couple of images with the Sigma which I like very much. No experience of the Canon but did also post this in same thread:

There is a review of these lenses in 'another magazine' this month.

For crop sensor the Sigma 10-20 is given verdict, the f3.5 in preference or variable aperture for budget choice.

For FF Canon 16-35 seemed to be clear choice with 17-40 close behind.

For very wide the Sigma 8-16 for crop and 12-24 for FF.

I have the Canon. I love it. Sharp, full of contrast, nice and light yet still robust.

I had the Sigma and cannot recommend it. Maybe I had a bad one but it was very poor at the edges, even at the peak apertures like f8. Pity I found out after a trip to the Rockies and not before

In my lens review HERE the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM came in 4th out of the 5 lenses reviewed.
The Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II is a better choice as is the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM.

                  Re: Canon 10-22 mm v Sigma 10-20mm

I bought the Sigma and like Northman I can't recommend it. TheDigitalPicture did a great round-up both lenses (along with a host of others) which they actually tested and showed crops from images taken from each, the Sigma didn't fare well being very soft at the periphery which was exactly my gripe with it.

After an unhappy year with it I sold it on and bought Sigma's 8-16mm which is dramatically wider and significantly sharper. Of the two you're contemplating I wouldn't hesitate to pay the premium for the Canon version though.

Loved my Canon 10-22 so much it's the only EF-S lens I kept after moving to FF, just in case I got another crop body at some point...

I too have had my Canon 10-22mm for some time now and love it to bits. But going by all the tests I have read it would be a difficult choice now between it and the Sigma 8-16mm.
