    Re: Canon EF 24-105mm Purchased

Not an expert but with a crop body your 15-85 EFS would give you effectively 24mm- 136mm. Therefore, you could be duplicating.

@Nathaniel - The 24-105 is a 24-105 whether it is on a crop or full frame body - so you compare the 24-105 with 15-85

@DrFingers - you would be getting the extra length from 85-105 at the expense of losing the 15-24 range. However you would also be getting F4 across the whole range and also improved image quality. I would have thought that the 70-200 would be a natural upgrade companion to the 15-85.

Brian, Not quite sure whether you think that I shouldn't compare the 24-105 with the 15-85 or not. I have personally come to the conclusion that for close range shots ,say people within a building like a church, that I'd use my 17-50mm lens, and for a walk about the 24-105 lens and the 70-200 for telephoto photos (with a 1.4 convertor in the bag). The nifty fifty for those occasions where for example, one cannot use flash. Is my thinking right?

In an ideal world you could keep the 15-85mm for when you need to go wide & get the 24-105mm as well for better quality & for when you need that little bit extra length, then also add the 70-200mm for when you want alot more length.

Nathaniel - the focal lengths of lens are the same for crop and full frame cameras. So you compare the 15-85 with the 24-105 without considering the body.

Your assumptions about the lens use are good

Just got a Canon EF 24-105mm L, superb lens, not had it long though.
I kept wondering (still do) whether to get this or the EF 17-40mm L as a 'walk-about' lens, considering the crop factor on my 60D....any thoughts?

If you have the 24-105 you need the 10-22 for the wide end. 17-40 is really the wide angle lens for F/F.

                      Re: Canon EF 24-105mm Purchased

Also look at the 17-55 f2.8 as it combines going wider with gathering twice as much light for dull days, so covers two extra bases...
(The 10-22 is very wide and you need to have a use for it. Though I have one and haven't sold it even though it won't fit on my 5DmkII as one day I might have a camera it will work with and it's too good to part with.)
