    Canon EF 70-300 IS non-L, non-DO

    Hi.

Has anyone used (and/or compared) any of these lenses:

    Canon 70-300 IS non-L, non-DO
Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD MACRO
Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG Macro

    Which one is better?

I have used the Sigma (my daughters) and it is capable of some very good results. Just bought the Canon 70 -300 IS USM and it is way ahead in image quality in my opinion. The IS is a fair benefit especially when racked out towards the 300mm end. It also has been described as "the hidden L lens" - perhaps not on build quality but it can turn out some impressive shots.

I have the EF 70-300 IS. It has its detractors, but I think it's good value for the money. Not so hot past 270mm though.

Picked mine up on *bay SH for £275.

Took this last night - 1/45sec at f11, 300mm hand held. I'm pretty impressed so far.

A friend of mine was looking for a one lens solution for some photography that we did together and tried all of these. He bought the Tamron and fairly quickly chopped it in for the Canon, which he considered to be a great improvement. Within a few months, the new Canon 70 - 300mm L series was announced and he changed to that. He is delighted with the L series.

He considers difference is that the "standard" zoom can turn in some stunning shots ..................... in the right lighting conditions. The L series zoom will do it all the time.

Nice David - makes you wonder what the Marmite-DO and L are capable of.

George - here is one from the 70-300L which I took last night. Rubbish as a picture but it does show the IQ of the lens
