    Re: EF-S 55-250 ... Would I be happy?

The 55-250 is a great lens, it really surprised me when i first got it as it was so sharp. However i haven't ever used an L lens do i can't compare.

I'm really happy with it, i don't use it all the time and since i've just purchased the 15-85 i'm not sure how much use i will get out of it. I'm not selling it though as my copy is super sharp and you never know when it might come in handy.

There are some excellent Non L lenses around and these are worth a look such as the nifty fifty, the EF 85mm f.1.8USM and the EF 100mm f2 USM. My friends have these lenses and the IQ is super sharp. I am sure the 55-250mm lens is a great lens. I have used one.

Although I don't own one, I have always been a fan of the 55 - 250mm. Cracking results from such an inexpensive lens.

I confess that I love my 55-250 it's spent most of its time on the camera since I bought it... but as its my one and only bought lens following my kit lens I guess I would say that. and I can't tell you how it compares to others as I've never tried them... It doesn't feel as solid as my 18-55 but then I guess it may just be because of the range and the extension of the lens.

I've just realised this answer probably isn't alot of help...

          To save it...

I've looked it up and it weighs Weight 390g.

          the 75-300(non L) weighs 480g

Come back to add... wonder if you could try one at a shop? You know, stand outside and take a couple of shots... if the shop thinks its going to get a sale you never know?

If the young SAGE Colin C says it is is good ,it must be a good lens.

                DO NOT BUY a EF-S 55-250

Because today 13 June 2011 Canon have announced EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II
