90D with Tamron 18-400mm

I thought I would test the Tamron 18-400mm with my 90D, and applied advice from @imagesBV to increase the minimum shutter speed to combat possible out of focus images. (I increased it by one notch).

We went to Hyde Hall, it was very sunny, so I had a polarized filter attached all afternoon. I forgot to undo all the in camera lens corrections, but was pleasantly surprised that there was very little colour fringing around the edges, did the polarizing filter help?

Some people have said this lens can be soft with the 90D, and it seems to be hit or miss. These were the best from the day, many went into the recycling bin. I need to test it next on my 77D. I want the impossible, one lens on a DSLR to do everything for holidays!

Thanks. Yes the first one is my favourite too. The polarising filter gave the colours a punch.

I do like numbers 1 & 2, you've got great colour in 1 and an interesting and sharp view in 2

What's all this stuff about one lens for holidays? Haven't you got that with your crop camera and the 18-400 ? It may not be the best beast for dark interiors but you'll cover both the whole church and the gargoyle on the spire with that range.

For many trips my 70d/ later on the 80d and the Canon 18-200mm was my one lens combo. It took me round Singapore /Australia / New Zealand and Hong Kong for one marathon trip and we kept smiling. It has its critics as there is some minor vignetting or horizon dip but both these can be corrected in PS. It's not as sharp as an L lens but then nothing is. You've got the shot and your sanity and shoulders at the end of the trip

Later on I fell in love with the 5d mk4 and most times don't want to be parted from it. That's all very well but then I end up taking the 24-104L on holiday and one from 16-35 or 70-300 depending on location.

Heavy, lumpy, time consuming. .............. !!!

Thanks. I think one Facebook page has got inside my head. So many ‘experts’ claim that images are only sharp if you have the latest version of any L lens. So I thought I would ask here because I trust people’s opinions here. Mind you, by the time we get to go on holiday again, my lens collection might be obsolete!

I think if you work within the limitations of the lens- which will be good light conditions and an aperture not at extremes- you will get some great images- as you've already proved above.

And you can tweak them a bit more in PS if you choose.

With the L lens you will get a lower f stop range ( so you can work with lower ISO= less noise) and a better quality optical quality on the glass. Guess what? That means weight and money. Only you can judge how much that matters. You were there, you got the shot and it was memorable .....

You Tube have some interesting reviews of this lens ( Jared Polin for example )

To all these FaceBook "experts" I would suggest that if you have good technique with a poorer lens you'll get a better shot than poor technique with a good lens !
