    eos-m3 + 55-250is STM

my mate turned up for a brief visit this morning ,and I grabbed a few quick test shots with his 55-250 is stm lens on the m3 . first off its very quick to focus nearly up to DSLR speed in fact .I only took a few shots through the back window and I,m quite pleased with the results .impressed enough to say that I will be buying one as a walkabout lens on the m3 for the summer coupled with the macro that will give me everything I want ( unless I go for a m5 or m50 body ) .surprised with the sharpness and clarity of this budget lens to .judge for yourself .

It is a marvel......and relatively inexpensive.
    My small kit is 200D and 24STM, 50STM, 85 primes....or 10-18, 18-55, 55-250STMs...and virtually weightless too

I reckon that the 55-250 IS STM is one the best "bang for bucks" Canon lenses.

All of the IS STM lenses are much better than they are generally given credit for. They are still really good value, even though prices are a fair bit higher than they were a couple of years ago. The 55 - 250 EF-S IS STM appears to be a good deal better than the 55- 200 EF-M by all accounts.

          My small kit is 200D and 24STM, 50STM, 85 primes....or 10-18, 18-55, 55-250STMs
Almost the same as mine, just the EF-S 35 mm macro instead of the 24 mm.

I have considered the 35mm....quite attractive with f2.8....and the built in ring flash.....I've been looking on the grey market....just £210ish

and the built in ring flash
The ring light is very weak though, nowhere near as strong as one of the LED flashes that you attach to the front of a lens, and those themselves are much weaker than a proper ring flash. It's only really effective at very close range indeed.

Thanks Richard...as suspected regarding ring flash power.....

my issue with APS-c camera is that I've never had a fast 50mm prime equivalent...24 equates to 38, 28 = 44, 30 = 48 35 = 56, the 30f2 would be nice but pricey......I don't need one really ....probably comes from the days when you always had a 50mm standard prime with an SLR.

Yes, the 35 on APS-C equivalent to 56 mm FF reminds me very much of the 58 mm Helios on the Zenith, the only camera and lens I had for several years. I took hundreds of photos with it, funnily I never felt the need for super wide or ultra telephoto which people seem to think we can't live without these days. And ISO 50 slide film as well........

The 35 mm is a very good lens for image quality even putting aside the macro capability, had very positive reviews which encouraged me to buy it, particularly this one :

Looking at it, it's so small and light with a little front element, it's hard to believe it's F2.8. The IS is also very useful for macro, you can compensate for the relatively low light from the LEDs by using a slower shutter speed. The LED ring does also aid greatly for focussing.

My lens of choice on my Fuji is their 35mm f2.0 which is around a 52.5 with the Fuji crop factor. I have a range of other lenses - 12mm, 18mm and now 50mm - but the 35 is my favourite.

Yes the fuji lenses are good Andy...I had the 35mm f1.4 when I had the XPro1 and XT-1 (coupled with 18, 27 primes - and 10-24, 18-55, 55-200 zooms) I didn't get on with the bodies and when I was asked to do a wedding I jumped back to Canon for twin card slots and files that Lightroom could handle. I really enjoyed using the Fuji gear but Canon suits me better overall...probably because I'm more comfortable with it and too lazy to learn another software for PP.

I was more referring to the focal length than the quality Brian, but yes, the three Fuji lenses I have are pretty good. Even if one of them is the 50-230mm, cheap as chips and quite remarkably good.

Fuji in Adobe has moved on a lot now and the recent versions of LR handle RAF quite well. If you want really high quality stuff then there’s the £30 X-transformer which batch converts to DNG and does a very good job. Shame you couldn’t stick around for a bit though, the *2 versions all have dual card slots...

Cheers Andy...thats good to know....I knew the XPro2 had dual slots....I swapped back in 2015 having been a 'too early adopter' perhaps.
Looking forward to seeing some of the smaller systems at the NEC...Olympus E-M1 II and of course Sony's offerings.
..........but I won't be tempted to switch yet as I value my marriage!

Brian, yes possibly a generation early, though the X-Trans 1 sensor does have a rather pleasing look about it.

Good luck in Birmingham. Leave the wallet at home just to be safe perhaps
