    Back Beach Sundown

    Teignmouth, here in Devon, has two beaches: the main seaward-facing beach is on the east side where there is a pier and the usual holiday accoutrements but the second, far more interesting, beach looks up the length of the estuary and faces west. This is called the 'Back Beach' and a quick look at a map will show that with the estuary reaching nearly four miles westward it promises to be a fine location to watch the setting sun - especially when one considers there are three pubs backing onto the beach providing refreshment as well as a viewpoint.

    I was there this weekend, in exceptionally unseasonal weather, for the inaugural Shanty Festival and was able to join in the nightly ritual.
