We’re also told that there will be an external dedicated teleconverter for the lens, which would likely be an additional cost. We weren’t told if it was a 1.4x teleconverter or something else.

EF 200-600
I've not looked over at Canon Rumors for a while and see they are all talking about the new 200-600 thats coming out this year - is this going to be a game changer for those using the Sig 150-600
We’ve received a few more bits of information since yesterdays story about a Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS coming in 2016. We’re told that the new lens will likely be announced in August 2016 and will cost around $1700 USD, which would put it just under the Sigma’s 150-600mm f/5-6.3 OS Sport’s $1799 price tag. This tells us it will definitely not be an L lens, but it should still have great optics and build quality, though weather-sealing would be unlikely at this price point from Canon.
We’re also told that there will be an external dedicated teleconverter for the lens, which would likely be an additional cost. We weren’t told if it was a 1.4x teleconverter or something else.

Re: EF 200-600
Some interesting conjecture here: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1401812/0 Seems Canon patented a 200-600 design but it's an internal zoom so like the 70-200 range not the Sigma/Tamron 150-600s.
I'm perfectly happy with my Sigma at the moment so it would have to be pretty good to make me want to change...EOS 7D mk II, Sigma 150-660C, Canon 17-85 EF-S, Tamron 10-24 and a wife who shares my obsession.

Re: EF 200-600
Interesting, maybe a worthwhile upgrade from my mark I 100-400mm lens of its true.
I guess 200mm is a little looking at the bottom end for some, but for the uses its pitched at I think it's fine.
If it is a internal zoom like many 70-200mm them that's even better.Andy

Re: EF 200-600
the heated discussions now seem to revolve around whether its going to be an "L" or not - but coming with its own dedicated 1.4x as well does mean it will have some reach and clearly going after the Sigma market:- Ian

Re: EF 200-600
Hmm!, interesting.
Certainly something I could be interested in, if the price is right?
I bought the 100-400 L Mkll less than a year ago, but 600mm without the TC, would be good, and even better with an in-built 1.4x TC giving 840mm, especially if it's not as big and heavy as the Sigma 150-600 Sport.
This time around, I wouldn't buy on launch. I did this with the 100-400, paying £2k, only to see it come down by £200 a few weeks later.

So I think it has to be an EF-S option in a budget range to compete with the Sigma/Tamron models but not compete with the L glass...EOS 7D mk II, Sigma 150-660C, Canon 17-85 EF-S, Tamron 10-24 and a wife who shares my obsession.

Re: EF 200-600
From reading the Rumours site I tend to agree with what Andy is saying in that it would be a non "L" EF-S lens, but it would have to be a step up from the Tamron/Sigma offerings to make it worthwhile though and in all honesty I think that could be a struggle as many posters on here are producing excellent images with for instance the Sigma such as Jeff, Stan and others so if its not priced similarly it would have to offer improved I.Q , if it does transpire that its an "L" lens where does that leave the 200-400 in the range... we shall just have to wait and see !!

Re: EF 200-600
so Canon has us waiting for the 5Dx and now a new lens, could pick both up at the same time, assuming I found a new wife as well:- Ian
