My name is Giulia, I am an Italian living in London, I am new to the forum and I am.. desperately seeking for help! :)
My husband has been using a Canon 550D camera for quite a few years now. However, in the last year it has started been less and less efficient and it’s probably now time for it to retire and I would love to get him a new camera.
I love taking photos myself, but I am very unaware/ignorant of all the technicalities, and then here I am asking for your advice. It will be his 30th birthday present, therefore I would be more than happy to invest in it, but at the same time I don’t want to “overdo it”, by buying something that must be good because it’s pricey, but maybe it doesn’t suit its “needs” at best (I hope I’ve explained myself!).
Starting from technical aspects, we currently have 2 EFS lenses (18-55 and 55-250) and it would be ideal if they could be used on the new camera too. Coming then to photo preferences, we both really love taking landscape photographs and my husband is also very passionate about art and takes also many pics of masterpieces (frescoes in particular) and their very fine details, often in not-that-well illuminated environments. Plus of course the typical souvenir/family portraits. He does not seem to use flashlight that much. We travel quite a lot, so lightweight would be a bonus, but I would not treat it as the top requirement.
This is all what comes across my mind but if I haven’t given enough details, please ask! I would be happy to get him a camera that could provide him an opportunity of learning more about photography and manual settings, but not something too high up for our current amateur level (the automatic function is still in use quite a lot when we are on holiday and short of time).
Thank you all so much in advance!
Giulia
