    Re: Trip to Iceland

I think it's rather hypocritical of Iceland to offer whale watching trips as it is one of only two countries (with Norway) which continues commercial hunting of whales, which I doubt they mention to...

    Re: Image Stabilization

One thing to remember is that if there are two (or more) IS modes, make sure you have the right one selected. When I first got my Sigma 100 - 400 C, I thought it was hopeless as the image kept...

    Re: Confused by sizes

    Thanks Ian,
Just what I needed to know. I wonder whether challenge judges look at the images as they appear here, or on Flickr?

    Confused by sizes

According to the rules, the maximum size for an image should be 800 pixels on the longest side. If I resample an image at that size, post it on Flickr, then use the "+" to view it at its maximum...

    Re: 1DX2 vs R

They're not really comparable. The EOS R is pretty much equivalent to the 6D2.
General opinion, and rumours, is that a mirrorless equivalent to the 1DX2 won't be released for some time, most likely...
  6. Re: Canon PIXMA MG7700 Series - Printing Problem

I don't have a Canon printer, mine is HP. With this (Windows 10) there is an icon on the desktop. I double click that, from the window that opens select "Maintain your printer". One of the options...
  7. Re: Canon PIXMA MG7700 Series - Printing Problem

Printers which have had heavier usage may last longer than lightly used ones. General opinion is that inkjet printers should be used at least once a week. If left longer, ink is likely to dry inside...

    Comparison

There's an interesting new video (I usually hate videos, prefer to read but ..) on FStoppers titled:
"Surprising Comparison Results Between Canon R, Nikon Z7, and Sony a7R III"

    I would post...

    Re: 550D and Airshows..

Both of those Sigma lenses are very heavy, more than I could cope with wandering around for a full day. I have the 150 - 600 Contemporary which is quite a bit lighter than the Sport, but I would...

    Re: Dragons & Damsels

It seems that your images are posted directly onto this site. Quality always looks better if you post on Flickr and then link them to here. That also means that people can see the exif data on Flickr...
  11. Re: Aperture numbers change if using a crop sensor?

There is endless discussion (and inevitable heated argument) on this topic on the internet. I believe the basic idea is that when you fit a lens designed for full frame onto an APS-C sensor body only...

    Re: DPP 4.8.30 manual

I hate video guides personally, "talking heads" videos are usually badly presented and organised. I recommend Nina Bailey's Ebook (downloadable pdf) called "Beginner's Guide to DPP (v4) and RAW...

Re: EOS-R with EF lenses question

It's important to note that as EF-S lenses are only designed to cover the APS-C size sensor, not full frame, when you use them on the EOS-R with the adapter the camera will automatically produce...

Re: EOS-R with EF lenses question

One of the unfortunate things you notice about going full frame is that you have to spend more on lenses to match.
I have the Sigma 100 - 400, it's a lot cheaper than the Canon and as good...

Re: EOS-R with EF lenses question

No, the actual focal length of an EF-S lens is given i.e. 250 mm, not the equivalent focal length compared to full frame. It is not "matched" to the sensor size. So the "crop factor" is the same with...

    Re: Cauliflower Fungus

Said to be edible and good. But quite rare, so perhaps a pity to harvest it. Associated with conifers, not broad-leaved trees.

    Re: Fungi ???

The reality is that most fungi simply can't be identified from a photo, sometimes can be from multiple photos of all parts, including the underside. The national fungus recording scheme doesn't...

    Re: Old style DSLRs

A camera like that wouldn't sell. Full frame models are always going to be more expensive and when people buy an expensive camera they expect to get all of the "bells and whistles". You can make any...
  19. Re: Looking for a decent small lightweight camera to supplement my 80D

Also look at the 200d, with the 18 - 135 mm lens. It's as light as the M50 plus adapter, same sensor as the 80d, easy to use if you are used to the 80d controls. I use it far more than any of my...

    Re: sigma 105 macro on 6d mk2

Exactly the same combination works fine for me and so I think it must be something to do with the particular lens rather than a general issue.

    Re: Lighter weight combination.

I think your choice is good. The 77d has basically almost all of the features of the 80d and is much lighter, and the 80d is itself lighter than the 5d2. The superzoom lenses have been much improved...

    Re: Lighter weight combination.

I agree with Brian about the 200d, since I bought mine I use it the vast majority of the time, in spite of having several bodies to choose from, and I have easily as much control as I need....

Re: Garden Cross Spider and Prey

or rather on HER prey - the female of the species is more deadly than the male, as the old song has it. At this time of the year males have given up eating, only one thing on their mind.

    Re: Affinity Photo Fringing

If on your camera you have set Lens Aberration Correction/Chromatic Aberration/Enable, DPP automatically applies that correction to the RAW image when it is opened. Other camera settings such as...
