The idea of the leading lines of the track in #1 is brilliant. The railing at the front of the loco is very distracting though and should probably be cropped out. IMO this will fair better in monochrome

      I love #2.

So simple an image, but well seen and conceived.

Got any jobs going? Cory and I would move over to NZ in a heartbeat.

Liking #2 due to the simplicity of it.

I agree with Colin and David - you could possibly loose some of the dead-space at the top of the image as well IMHO

Another 1 for #2! #1 is pretty good too though!

Been wanting to get over to NZ ever since my parents visited a few years ago and fell in love with the place!

              Jealous!

              All the best, Mike.

If you are certified to drive trains over there you would get a job they are getting short of loco drivers in NZ

Sorry to hijack your thread, Phil, but I thought you would be interested in my photo of the TranzAlpine taken a couple of years ago, somewhere near Arthur's Pass, I think. Great trip and great country.
                    Thanks for sharing your photos.

I like both of your original photos and #2 is great just as shot . Just put it in a frame and hang it on the wall.
I agree with chodeva that image #1 would be much better without the distracting railing. The problem with your crop, IMO, is that too much of the train track has been lost. What made the first image so striking was the long train track leading you into the photo from the bottom left corner.

Yes I might have another go at taking another photo a bit further back next time as the first one was a spur of the moment type shot.
