    Off camera flash

Following this discussion this might be a subject worth covering, how to operate off-camera flash using the onboard settings on the latest cameras. I've had partial success with it and a few surprises, and it seems others are having similar results. I'd love to know how to use it properly rather than the trial and error I'm currently going through.

    Re: Off camera flash

I would agree with this. I have just posted a qestion to the forum regarding such a matter with my 40D & Speedlite 430ex2. Hopefully the magazine will take this forward, not just with the latest cameras (where YouTube is a good source of info) but also older versions. Thanks for raising this.

Actually setting up a lesson or two, with homework and a area to post our results to for critique would be nice as all.

I agree with this. I would like a lesson in simple off camera use such as with a flash bracket and chord, as well as with slave units, radio triggers etc.

I too am up for a bit of learning! Now using the 7D and haven't played with flash on there yet, but there's a lot more to it than the 550D!

I will watch this space in anticipation!

Can I suggest that The Speedliter's Handbook (Amazon £16) is an excellent introduction to the basics of flash?

S-J-P - I've taken your advice and would urge others to do likewise. It's a really detailed, info packed read!
