Pics from the highlands of PNG

Life in the highlands of PNG is hard - an old wartime bridge that has lasted 60 years is now being upgraded to one that shouldn't have to last another 60, but probably will. A can of coke is won or lost on the throw of a dart rather than pay full price for it. A house is built in 3 - 5 days, literally cut from the jungle trees with huge bush knives that are carried everywhere for both work and self-defence, and not necessarily in that order.

For the expat workers up there, life in a camp can sometimes seem like a prison when fenced in 24/7 for weeks on end - yet the dawn light sheds a golden hue on even the most mundane surroundings and lifts the spirits.

Very nice set of images Andy. Love the way you captured the framing of the 2 logs in the 2nd image. Nicely done.

All very interesting and well taken and that first shot sets the scene very nicely. However, I am amazed in the last shot how, with the right composition and light, you can make barbed wire look so good.

        That is one tall fence.

Full of colour. Do like the huts by the river.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. It certainly is a fascinating place but I was lucky to get good light for some of these - it seems to rain more there than in the UK, something which I thought wasn't possible

Sorry Andy missed these as I have not been on the forum for a week or so. Yes was looking forward to some PNG shots when you said you were off there for a few days, and these shots are truly wonderful.

Like the whole set a lot, both interesting and very well shot too.
                  Best Regards
