    BWC - Fri 22 Feb 13

I met up with Ian and Brian today at the British Wildlife Centre, near Lingfield, Surrey. Great day, good company, although cold with snow is not ideal weather!

Here's my favourite shots from the day. All taken with my 7D, 70-300 L IS USM, and with flash (EX430 II). Due to weather, I set iso800 for most of the day, as I find the 7D copes with that very nicely!

The centre has a new arrival... a Weasel, and let me tell you... he's very quick!

The Weasel is much like the Stoat...

I tried something a bit different with the Stoat too...

There's a sign by the Stoat that says 'Care - these animals may bite!' - you should probably bare that in mind if you visit!

    Hope you like them!

    C&C welcome, as ever!

    All the best, Mike

Thanks Ian, Stephen, Colin and Tom, for looking and commenting.

That Weasel is seriously quick, as is the Stoat... I'll have to go back and try to improve on what I have got so far. Also, both are tremendous fun to watch so it's no real hardship watching them run around! They certainly gathered a bit of a crowd!

            Many thanks, Mike.

              Lovely set of images, Mike.
My fave is the stoat in the tunnel - a brilliantly unusual view.
The red squirrel is darn fine too; there wasn't one of these when I visited, although that is years ago. You've reminded me I should go again, and soon.
              Cheers,

Alex / Peter - thanks for your comments.

@Alex - BWC will soon be open each weekend until Oct, and ALL state school holidays, so plenty of opportunities. There's a few of us that tend to go regularly, so watch on here if you'd like to meet up! Yes, the Stoat tunnel shot is one I'm very pleased with. I do like the unusual shots, and I think this fits nicely in that bracket!
@Peter - Another vote for the tunnel shot... seems to be popular! Thanks.

                  All the best, Mike.

A weasel is weasely recognizable but a stoat is stoatally different

                        Thanks 2beers / Paul.

The Stoat did 'sort of' floss, as this shot is just after he had a very good go with Brian's (Squibb) glove finger (which probably now has a few holes in it)! And yes, the Weasel is especiialy quick, so you have to point at where you hope he'll pop up, and ..... wait! Patience is a virtue!

Thanks Alun. 'Tufty' is my new PC background!

I can fully recommend the 70-300 L, especially on a crop it's just great for wildlife and sport. For the record, I use Hoya Pro-1 UV filters on my lenses, mainly for some extra protection and I have found no visible loss of IQ.

                              Thanks for commenting, Mike.
